What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding While Treating Dengue?

Hi, I ve been having dengue since last week. However I got my period on Friday, and it has lasted for 6 days compared to the normal 4 days. Was wondering if it s normal to have long period after dengue, cause I have already been discharged and free from dengue.

Hello,

Dengue fever is associated with very low platelet levels. Adequate platelets are required in body to plug the bleeding vessels.Low platelets may be responsible for prolonged menstrual bleeding. However, you need t get your platelet levels checked as well as observe your periods for next couple of months.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
