What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

I have had my period since thursday of last week. (being 11 days early) At the start, it wasn t constant bleeding. it was very light, and it would go away for a few days and then it came back. It has been full blown since three or four days ago and now it s light and not really there, again. I had sexual intercourse prior to this.. what is wrong with me?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The emergency pill contains excess hormone enough to disrupt the hormone balance of the body and create menstrual irregularities.

It causes breakthrough bleeding soon after intake and this can mimic the natural period or may last for only a couple of days.

Since you are already due for your period, you may have had an exaggerated effect.

Please wait until three weeks after the intercourse and see a specialist for further help. If pregnancy is excluded, you may do well with a course of hormones and styptics.

Please remember to restrict the use of emergency pills to once or twice a year.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
