I got my period one week early and I ve been bleeding for 16 days straight. I called my doctor on day 11 and he didn t seem worried. I have also had cramping and a heavy feeling in my lower abdominal region. Would could be going on? When should I get worried? I m 45 years old.
You need to immediately visit gynaecologist. Investigations like pelvic examination,USG abdo pelvis and endometrial smear may be required. Tranexamic acid may be needed to control bleeding for 3-5 days every month. Uterine fibroids can be treated by medical management using drugs like danazol, hormonal contraceptives for couple of months. Iron supplementation may be needed as prophylaxis against anaemia. If you have completed your family, surgical options like myomectomy or hysterectomy may be considered.
Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask any more doubts.
