What Causes Prolonged Menstruation After Taking Microgynon?

Hi I started microgynon 30 for the first time 12days ago, I started taking it on the first day of period as instructed, my periods only ever last 4 days and now on day 12 I am still bleeding. It was spotting at first for a few days then started bleeding properly again. I wish I hadn t bothered taking them now as I m going on holiday next week and am wondering if I just stop taking them now as its only been two weeks will my cycle go back to normal and the bleeding stop? Also is it possible to double up on the pills to stop the breakthrough bleeding.

Hi,

You can stop it now, but the bleeding will not be stopped immediately. It will take another couple of days to stop.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman, Internal Medicine Specialist
