Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Prolonged Menstruation And Pain In The Upper Abdomen?
I am 48 years old with normal periods every 28 days usually lasting 4-5 days. However, this month, it has lasted for 14 days, not heavy, mostly light flow, I thought it had ended several times and then it starts again. I have some achiness in upper abdomen right below my ribs and have felt generally achy. Otherwise, I am fine. Is this normal for pre-menopause?
Menstrual irregularities including prolonged bleeding can happen in women nearing their menopause. Nothing much to worry as it is normal phenomenon. However, if bleeding last more we have to get evaluated to rule out certain disease condition.
As of now, you can take drugs like Tranexamic Acid for symptomatic relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
