Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my daughter is 12 yr old and started menstruating 3months back but this time her bleeding is not stopping more than 3 weeks now and her ultrasound showed thick endometrium of 2.3 cm I am waiting for gyne appt but I am really should it be something of serious concern
I can understand your concern. Endometrium is the inner wall of the uterus. When this wall breaks, unfertilized ovum is sloughed out in menstrual blood along with endometrium. Endometrium contains blood vessels which is the reason blood is observed in menstruation.
Now, from this information, you can understand easily that if the endometrium is thick, there will be more blood vessels and so more blood to slough out causing longer menstrual cycles.
It is a very common condition observed in many females. Early start of menstrual cycles (as your daughter is 12 years old) can also be a reason of thick endometrium. When you will visit your gynecologist, your daughter will be prescribed medications that will keep the endometrium normal and will keep menstrual cycles regular. She just has to take this medicine for some time and she will be fine.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
