What Causes Radiating Pain From Knee To Lower Back Post Knee Injury?

Months ago I damaged my knee, it gave out from underneath me when I landed on it, Swell the next day and i could not bare weight on it. I got it looked at and was told it was soft tissue damage. Ever since then I get a pain on the outside of the knee (it is my left knee) and recently the pain goes up my thigh and into my lower back on the left hand side. I also have the feeling of needing to constantly stretch my knee the pain going through to my back has only just recently occurred. Any ideas on what it could be? and if I should get it looked at straight away at all?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

After noting your history of knee injury and subsequent pain in thigh and back my opinion is as follows:
The knee injury causes are not yet diagnosed well unless you have done MRI of knee. So first of all get MRI.
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation.
The cause of pain in the thigh and back can be due to muscle spasm that has persisted or fibromyalgia or Nerve compression at lumbar area.
Once a proper clinical evaluation then next step is investigations.
Proper diagnosis can lead to a specific treatment.
Till then do not put strain on muscles, back and knee; give rest or use support.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
