What Causes Raised Tender Spot On Areola Of Breast?

I am a 58 year old woman, been through menopause for 8 years. I have a tender spot on my Areola of my left breast. The area is close to my nipple involving a couple of the bumps on my Areola. It seems to be raised and the area a little raised. No redness at all.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
I understand your concern.
The tender spot on areola of breast seems to be due to inflammation of the part following trauma. / itching/ fitting brassier/ insect bite etc..Inflammation may not show redness on areola due to it's pigmentation. Test for swelling of axillary glands , if any. Observe the lesion till it goes.
Take simple pain killers over the counter.. it should go.if not consult a doctor.
Thanks.
