Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad got this random stinging pain on the outside of his lower leg near his ankle that he said felt like a wasp sting. After it happened a few more times, he started watching it. The next time it occured, there was nothing there to visibly have caused it. When we looked at it an hour or two later there was a small bruise where the stinging happened. Any idea what happened?
The commonest cause of random pain near the ankle is due to insect bite and allergic reaction due to it, like pain, swelling, inflammation, etc. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are osteoarthritis, RA, gout, osteoporosis, sprained ankle, tendonitis, sprain or strain, etc.
Your dad should clean the area affected. Apply ointment Soframycin to ease discomfort. He can take antihistamine, one at bed time for three nights. Insect bite symptoms will get decreased. However, he should get clinically examined by a GP, get all required imaging tests and blood analysis done to detect the pathology so that he can be treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
