Hi,
A
rapid heart rate or
tachycardia is a condition in which the heart beats faster than the normal rate. In adults, a heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute is considered tachycardia. There are several causes of tachycardia including
anxiety, stress, caffeine intake, physical activity, fever,
hormonal imbalances, and certain medical conditions like
thyroid disorders, anemia, and heart diseases.
In your son's case, the rapid heart rate of 140 beats per minute could be due to an underlying medical condition or a sudden increase in physical activity. The pooling of blood could be due to a problem with the heart's electrical system or heart valves, which could cause an irregular heartbeat.
To determine the underlying cause of your son's tachycardia, your doctor may perform an electrocardiogram (ECG) to measure the electrical activity of the heart, a
Holter monitor to record the heart's activity over a longer period, and/or an
echocardiogram to evaluate the structure and function of the heart.
If the cause of tachycardia is identified, the appropriate treatment will be prescribed. Blood thinners and medication to lower the heart rate may be used as a temporary measure until a diagnosis is made. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions and keep all scheduled appointments for further evaluation and treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
