What Causes Rashes On The Body Extremities While On Revlimid?

I have multiple myeloma for which I take revlimid. Four days ago at a consultation with my oncologist he noted that I have a bronchitis with productive purulent sputum as well as a small area of cellulitis on my forehead. Since my WBC = 3100 he prescribed augmentin which I have been taking b.i.d. Today I developed an urticarial red rash on my extremities but not on my trunk. It does not itch. Should I attribute this new rash to an allergy to penicillin like drugs such as augmentin and stop the augmentin or simply treat the rash with anti-histamines?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction due to the new medication.

I suggest you stop the medication and continue using antihistamines daily such as Levocetirizine daily.

I also recommend to consult your doctor about an alternative medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
