What Causes Rectal Drainage Of Large Blood Clots?

Im 51 and having a period off and on , but iv had some light bleeding from the rectum. Today all of a sudden im having large clots and bark blood from my rectum and it drips out. No poop just blood and large clots. What should I do and will this pass. I do have pain , but its where i would cramp for my period. I do hsve cist on my overals all so.

I understand your concern.

Rectal bleeding consisting of dark blood clots present can be because of diverticular disease/malignancy in colon/inflammatory bowel disease/haemorrhoids.

Whatever the cause may be it needs to be assessed by certain invedtigations.

Firstly,I want to know if you are on any medications?Antiinflammatory medications like NSAIDs,aspirin,warfarin can cause such bleeding.

If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Investigations like basic blood count,USG abdo.
-Visit to gastroenterologist is necessary for local physical examination and colonoscopy for further specific treatments.
-Iron supplementation against anaemia due to chronic blood loss will be needed.
