I have a cyst on my face. Two years ago it ruptured and abscessed. The doctor put a drain in, but it didn't work so I had to go in for surgery. He removed the abscess and took out as much cyst as he could, but couldn't get all of it because my face was too swollen. Since then I have had two more surgeries to try and remove the cyst because it keeps coming back. My last surgery was in October of 2012, which left me with a lump of scar tissue. This week the area started leaking again. Why does the cyst keep coming back and if the cyst is leaking do I need to have surgery again immediately?
It may be a dermoid cyst or a sebaceous cyst with incomplete removal everytime. YOu should do an MRI, Ultrasonography to know the size & extent of the cyst. Removal is done only after these investigations. Repeated removals will fail if the capsule (outer covering) of the cyst is left behind. Doctors/ Surgeons may not do this on purpose, but due to severe inflammation, sometimes the capsule is hard to visualize and hence is accidentally left in place. My opinion would be to undergo investigations and then proceed with the removal.
