What Causes Recurrent Cough Despite Using Allergex And Cortisone Shot?
Hi can a baby from under a year 9 months take allergex syrup.I think my baby is teething and when she does she gets a coughy chest and coughs a lot.I used prospan but seems it is not working now.Any suggestions for the cough. We previously used cortosone but not good for the bone structure ;used asma pumps coz the one gp said she got asma coz I have it and chances good that she will have it too.Ghe cough went away for 3 weeks and is back......can it the chance of season too?? Regards Adele
It is normal for a 9-month-old to get a cough from time to time, and usually, we would not recommend using any medications, because medications do not generally help and can have dangerous side effects at this age.
I would especially not use cortisone at this age. If the baby is having a fever, you can use acetaminophen at an appropriate dose for the weight, and if the cough is frequent or persistent, the baby will likely need further evaluation for any lung or immune problems.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
