What Causes Recurrent Gout Attacks While Having Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus?

I was born with neprhogenic diabetes insipidus. At age 32 I traveled to Colombia and my spleen ruptured. I also was put on dialysis. It was determined I had sickle cell. When I came back to USA I start having Gout flare ups.they are now more frequent and last longer. Is there a connection with my illnesses and what treatment can I pursue?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The gout attacks can be related to a high level of uric acid.

I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication to treat the pain such as Naproxen.

I also recommend using Allopurinol to low the level of uric acid in the blood.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
