Hi, my son was diagnosed with prostatitis last year and he now has a recurrence. The urologist WAS going to do a cystoscopy along with the recommended the 4 week antibiotic treatment. My son hated taking the antibiotics last year and had read about prostate massage on some prostatitis forum, so asked the urologist to do that instead of the antibiotics. However, I don t think he researched these massages as he will be put under general anaesthetic and vigorously messaged . I, his mother, have googled and found out that this can be a very risky procedure. Sites say that some bacteria can escape, making him quite ill and that a haemorrhage is possible… My son is 21, so the urologist will not talk to me and I have not shared my concerns yet with my son, as i do not want to worry him in case my misgivings are found to be wrong. But from things on the internet, it suggests that this massage is an invasive procedure that could have dire consequences. I don t think my son has acute prostatitis…He seems not to have any infection. What is your opinion on the message option in hospital, rather than the antibiotic treatment. Also, if my son has the message, will he get antibiotics anyway, just to make sure that any bacteria that might be lurking and escaping are covered?
