What Causes Recurrent Seizures?

My 19 year old daughter was just told she has gray matter heterozygous. She also have type 1 diabetes. She had one seizure in January that was misdiagnosed as a diabetic seizure. Exactly a month later she had another seizure and the results revealed gray matter being where it s not supposed to be. Apparently she was born with it. She was put on Kappra and is taking the genetic form. She is in university. What is the possibility of the seizures occurring?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

What is there in grey matter? In diabetes, patients may develop electrolyte imbalance or diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic hyperosmolar coma etc.

They may induce seizures. An EEG done and follow up with a neuro-physician with regular check-ups may be useful.

If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
