Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Corneal Erosion And Runny Nose?
I was diagnosed with recurrent corneal erosion yesterday. But, I feel like there s just something in my eye. My nose keeps running. I am on eye gel, Polytrim and Lotemax to heal the epithelium. But, it just feels like there s something in the upper eyelid. Is there a possibility there is something in there beyond the sensation one would get from having the RCE syndrome. Thank you
Recurrent corneal erosion syndrome is caused due to the following: 1) Trauma to eye 2) Alkali burns 3) Foreign bodies 4) Post infectious ulcers like herpes 5) Contact lenses 6) Corneal dystrophy like lattice and Fuchs' dystrophy 7) Photocoagulation
The most common symptom is foreign body sensation or the sensation of having something under the eyelid especially the upper one. But nothing is present in the upper lid. Please don't worry about it and with the prescribed medication, you will be relieved of it. Though it takes time for the epithelium to heal and grow, the pain and dry eyes and foreign body sensation are reduced to minimal very early by medications.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
