What Causes Recurring Mouth Ulcers In An Elderly Person?
My mother is 74 years old. she is having mouth ulcers for last 6 months. She is not able to eat properly as it hurt most of the time. Sometimes liquid also hurts. She has consulted both physician and dentist. Nothing has worked. Medicines give relief for few days but it occurs again and again
Understanding your concern. As per your query your mother have symptoms of recurring mouth ulcers most probable reason for recurring ulcers in your mouth is aphthous ulcer . These ulcers can occur due to various reasons like allergy ,stress ,hormonal changes , vitamin deficiency and trauma . There can be some underlying disease that is responsible for ulcers like crohn's disease .I would suggest you :
- Avoid eating hot and spicy food .
- Avoid eating sea food and nuts for sometime , because they can cause allergy .
- Do warm saline rinses several times a day .
Consult oral pathologist for proper diagnosis to find out if there is any underlying disease which can be responsible .Other possible treatments include placing a medication called chlortetracycline (Aureomycin) on the sores or injecting steroids into the sores.
