Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I came because I was concerned with my right arm and maybe some nerve damage in it. It started when I was younger but at this point I m about to join the Navy and doing push ups can cause shocking pains through my arm. I ve always had this pain sense I was around 10 years old but I ve only been told to stay off of it and not do anything that causes the pain, which I have for years (maybe once or twice I ll feel it a month just doing routine things around the house) but I was wondering what I could do to help stop the pain or fix it. I never had any prior injuries on my right arm.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
I suspect a cervical rib which presses on nerve supplying arm in neck region especially when shoulders are down or forced forwards. Try to avoid these postures. A habit of braced up shoulder posture would be beneficial. Confirmation can be by plain X-ray of neck. MRI would give more clear picture and it would exclude cervical spondylitis too. Simple physiotherapy with expert guide), few medicines or surgery in few cases is the usual management. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
