Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Swollen Lump Behind The Ear Of A Toddler Post Trauma?
My child fell and hit his head behind the left ear: he is 2 1/2. The ear is red, swollen and there is a knot a little larger than the size of a pea. He didn't nap today so is more tired than usual. He is talking and walking normally. Should I take him to emergency room?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain there is a possibility that due to falling there has been traumatic injury to the ear and the area behind the ear and redness and swelling of the ear seems to be due to traumatic injury leading to either hematoma formation and inflamed lymph nodes.. Hematoma is formed when there is ruptured blood vssels and accumulation of blood into soft tissue.. I would suggest you to give him anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Do cool compresses over the ear as well as over the bump.. In case if there is no improvement in a week or if symptoms worsen consult a Paediatrician and get evaluated..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
