What Causes Redness And Painful Spot On Top Of Areola?
A few weeks ago I developed a tender spot on the top edge of my right areola. It was a bit painful, especially to the touch. The area was red and the edge of the areola felt a bit raised. After several days and my menstrual cycle it disappeared. A few days ago I developed another tender spot on the bottom right edge of my right areola. All the symptoms are the same but I noticed that the top edge of my areola (where the last tender spot was) is slightly darker in color than before and that skin feels a bit thicker as well. I am 41. Not pregnant or nursing. Not taking any medications at all. No known medical conditions. 5 8 220 pounds.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
The symtpoms can be related to mastitis. Mastitis typically causes redness, warmth, and tenderness of the affected breast. I suggest to do a breast ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile, I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Acetominophen to releve the pain. If the diagnosis is confirmed, antibiotics may be needed.
Hope my answer was helpful.

Kind regards!
