What Causes Redness, Burning And Tingling Sensation In Upper Lip?

All of a sudden my upper lip and a bit above it on one side started burning.. then got red and tingly. I washed I with a medicated pad from a first aid kitt, I put burn, itch spray on it, I though I got stung. but its they afternoon now and it is still there? I have never had herpies or cold sores before. why is it still sore and red?

Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the sudden redness,burning and tingling of upper lip can occur due to some allergic reaction like an insect bite which must have left its sting and poison below the skin leading to allergic reaction and inflammation..

In case if it would have been due to allergic reaction with some cosmetic used on face and lip it would be more spreaded and generalized on face and lips..

It can also be due to bacterial infection caused by use of some infected lip product or a napkin etc..

It could also be the beginning of a viral infection like herpes..

But more prominently it seems to be allergic reaction..

You can take Cetrizine or Allegra or benadryl for relief from inflammation and allergy.

Avoid using any cosmetic..

You can apply steroid based cream like Hydrocortisone 1% for relief..

Do not touch or scratch the area.

If the condition does not resolve or you see blisters or small sores appearing contact a dermatologist to get evaluated for any bacterial or viral infections.
