Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Reoccurring Muscle Cramps, Diarrhea And Weakness In Legs?
My son is a 16 year old football player. For the past two summers, he has been hospitalized with dehydration with symptoms of severe muscle cramps to the point he can t walk. He has frequent diarrhea which I m not sure is related and he sweats excessively. He drinks a ton of water. He is not diabetic. They ran lots of tests last summer when he was hospitalized but no cause is evident. He couldn t stop sweating today at school after weight lifting. He looks as if he has jumped in a lake after each practice.
Based on the history you have shared, it needs to be evaluated by an endocrinologist for work up some forms of renal tubular acidosis or syndromes causing electrolytes imbalance or excessive salts loss in urine.
Other endocrine possibilities should be ruled out with thyroid functions and metanephrine levels as well as serotonin levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin,
