What Causes Rise In BP Level Leading To Pounding Of Chest?

Age 55. Height 180 Weight 96kg Active and fit Today whilst resting my heart beat went up to 146bpm. I have taken 2 fitness classes this evening and it went up to 176bpm at its peak. Usually it is 76bpm. I feel like my chest is pounding like after a hard run, sweaty but clammy. Plus now I cannot get to sleep for my chest pounding. I have started wearing a Fitbit monitor which is giving me these readings. If I check my wrist pulse it is racing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

These pulse rates are very high. Heart rate is expected to increase during exercise but not often to this level and this long period of time (still high when you are trying to sleep).

You need to consider seeing your doctor for an assessment which would include physical examination, blood pressure, blood tests (complete blood count and thyroid function tests) and ECG.
Anemia and high thyroid hormone levels can cause palpitations as could intrinsic problems with the heart.

Treatment would depend on the cause found.

I hope this helps
