Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am vincamyicin (sp?) for an infection I got in hospital hem I got my TKR - they took outtheinfected knee and now I have a temporary knee, until we can learn up my infection. I have 5 more weeks of IV 2xs per day. Can this cause my pressure to elevate? It has been creeping up any now it it 160/98 with a hr of 125
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Vancomycin doesn't cause high BP in itself rather it causes hypotension, anaphylaxis, diarrhoea, hearing loss. However it causes interstitial nephritis that may cause High BP. I would like to advise you to have urinalysis and serum urea and serum creatinine tests to ruled out nephritis. otherwise daily check your blood pressure for up to one month if still high than 140/90 then start antihypertensive medicine. Hope it helps best. Don't forget to rate this answer and close the discussion at Healthcare Magic. Take your best care. Regards Dr Ejaz
