What Causes Rise In Blood Sugar Level While On Metformin For Type II Diabetes?

I am recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. I am taking metformin once a day with dinner. My blood sugar level is constantly high. I was told by a family member to try lemon juice and water but it doesn't seem to help. How can I get it to come down?

Hello dear,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Healthcare magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.

First of all let me tell you that the first step on treating type 2 diabetes is to look at your diet and lifestyle, and make any necessary changes.
You do not mention your weight, but usually type 2 diabetes is related with overweight problems, so by eating healthily, losing weight (if you're overweight) and exercising regularly you may be able to keep your blood glucose at a safe and healthy level without the need for other types of treatment. It's important to focus your diet on these high-fiber, low-fat foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains. You'll also need to eat fewer animal products, refined carbohydrates and sweets. You have to make regularly physical activity, or exercise at least 30 min per day.
After all these modifications, beside Metformin intake, I would recommend you to increase your Metformin dosage.

Hope I helped with my answer. For further concerns or follow up questions, feel free to ask again.

Take Care,
Dr. Ina
