What Causes Runny Nose Along Redness And Swelling In Eyes?

Hello, my 11 year old has very red, runny and swollen eyes. He is not complaining of itching and they were not goopy in the morning when he woke up. Although he does occasionally suffer from allergies with a runny/stuffy nose and cough, his eyes have never looked like this. I gave him Children s Claritin three hours ago and it has not given him any relief. Is there anything else I can give him over the counter, or should I take him in to see his pediatrician? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If there is no pain in eyes,or sticky discharge I would suggest to pour steroid eye drops in eyes. Continue with Claritin. He should be relieved. If no relief in 24 hours. He already has discharge from eyes making the lids stick in morning, take him to his doctor, he may need an antibiotic.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
