Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 4-1/2 y.o. daughter had a short seizure and she wasn t even sick or feverish. Afterward we noticed that she was red faced and felt very warm. She felt cooler within an hour and her temp was only 99.5. Doctors said it was a febrile seizure. She did have a febrile seizure at 16 months during a cold with fever but no other seizures since then until now. She had been running around outside 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour before the seizure dressed very warmly since our outdoor temp is 20° F. She was was indoors for the seizure wearing 2 layers of shirts and 2 layers of leggings. Could she have been overheated? Could that have caused a seizure?
Hi, Welcome to the HCM, If a child get febrile seizure in early infantile period then there are 20 to 30 percent chances of having seizure again associated with fever. Since febrile seizures are milder than epileptic seizures and mostly occur for 2 minutes to maximum 10 minutes. If seizure prolong to half hr to one hr ,your child needs to be evaluated thoroughly for epileptic seizures and needs some routine blood tests ,electrolyte test and EEG.And discuss with neurologist paediatrician. Hopefully my answer will be helpfull for you. Regards, Dr.Maheshwari
