What Causes Seizures?

Last night my boyfriend had a seizure in the middle of the night. I had never experienced one and called 911. He had bit his tongue, was in convulsions and foaming mouth. I was scared because I wasn t sure what was happening and thought he may be suffering a stroke. The seizure lasted about 10 minutes. Eventually he came out of it and we took him by ambulance to get checked out. He had his last seizure in 2009 and he has not been under any medication for seizures but I have learned that stress, lack of sleep, poor diet are contributor of seizures. If he has another one when I am present, do I need to call 911 or just make sure he is safe from falling or hitting his head an try to get him to lay on his side so he does not choke. Is there anything else you can recommend? Do I need to call 911 again? The hospital doctor did not give him any meds but tomorrow he has an appointment with a neurologist. He is so depressed and numb. He doesn t want to lose his license or his new job. Will DMV automatically take his drivers license away or does the doctor have some say on that.
