Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had a seizure and was taken to ER. He was able to call me and tell me that he had seizure and was at the hospital, by the time I got there they had him all drugged up. Then told me they needed to put a breathing tube because they were afraid he would have another seizure. Was the breathing even necessary being that he was talking and alert before I got there? I just don’t understand how someone could be alert and talking to being sedated and needling a breathing tube.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It is good to know that your husband could inform you. It is best to put an endotracheal tube/breathing tube as patients tend to stop breathing when they have seizures. Don't worry, it's for good. Just talk to the treating doctor so that you get satisfied with the medications & treatments that your husband is getting. You can always inquire about his situation prior to getting admitted in the hospital. However, if you are not satisfied, you can always take a second opinion & consult another doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
