Hi Dear,
Understanding your concern.
There can be many reasons for sweet smell in nose like sinusitis , tumor ,
olfactory nerve dysfunction , or high blood sugar level . But the high blood sugar level is most common reason for sweet smell. This usually occur in person having diabetes type 1 . In this case body is unable to breakdown the blood sugar that is why body start breaking the fat , which further produces
ketone bodies .
This accumulation of ketone bodies in blood is known as
ketoacidosis ,which produces swell smell . I would suggest you to consult general physician and also otolaryngologist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order blood profile test to detect ketone bodies in blood and treat it accordingly.
Otolaryngologist may order CT scan and MRI for proper diagnosis . He/she may prescribe antibiotics(penicillin or
amoxicillin )course for at least 10 days along with decongestants .
The sweet smell do not probably occur due to
acid reflux so i think ranitidine will not going to help in this case . But try to eat light and less spicy .
