What Causes Seroma While Treating A Hematoma After A Stent Is Placed?

Had a stint put in. Then had a hematoma. Had surgery to repair. Now a seroma has appeared. We are now six months in. Have had a drain with bulb in over a month. Before that it was drained twice. Was hospitalized for a week with IV antibiotics. What would be the next step. Seems my DR is having a hard time figuring this out!

Hi,

Seroma appears due to collection of serous fluid, a part of blood called plasma. The collection accumulates due to the seeping in of plasma from damaged blood vessels during surgery. It is not an unusual occurrence and there is nothing to worry. It needs to be drained repeatedly however, if its not working then I would advise you to go for collapsing of the potential space where the fluid accumulates. You can try sclerotherapy for the same.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
