Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been to the ER 2 times within the week....I have moderate to severe pain that began on the left mid-abdomen and moved to the right mid-abdomen. Was given antibiotics and pain meds upon 1st visit after blood work and CT showed no abnormalities. Pain continued, with more nauseau, returned to GP who sent me to the ER again. ysUrinalis and abdominal xrays were normal. Again sent home to continue antibiotics and pain meds. Was told "if pain continues for more than 7 days from 2nd visit, return to GP" and also told "sometimes the body hurts, and then heals itself...feel better soon". And am being treating as a diverticulitis attack and told to use the BRAT diet. What should I do next?? This evening my pain level is probably around and 7-8.
HI. You are already under treatment and investigated taking medicines , I wounder why the CT scan is normal; if it is normal , means there is a problem that is not detectable on CT , X-ray or so. The commonest cause that can be missed are colitis- inflammation of the large bowel as it causes the pain in the areas described by you. This can be a part of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Colonoscopy and a therapeutic trial of antispasmodic and anti-anxiety medicines helps .
