What Causes Severe Acid Reflux Along With Diarrhoea And Abdominal Cramps?

I have had severe gas and intintine distress for 4 days now. Chills and then sweats. My stools were at first brown and then today turned black. The direha seems to come all at once. Then I go thru a bout of cramps and belching. Should I seek urgent care? I have had similar attics in the past, but they seem to go away in 24 to 30 hours.

Hi,

From your complaints in the query, it looks like you are suffering from severe gastritis with or without duodenitis. Stomach and intestinal organs have internal protective membranous layer which protects them from the acid and other enzymes. Gastritis is the condition in which the protective layer get inflamed and damaged. Infection, alcohol, spicy foods, fast foods, high fatty food, obesity, poor lifestyle and diet habit are the reason for the gastritis. Oesophagus is also involved, if the lower esophageal sphincter is defective. It is called as gastro-esophageal reflux disease.

Upper esophagogastroduodenoscopy helps to find the involvement of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. Prolonged injury to the lining epithelium cause gastric and duodenal ulcer which starts bleeding shows as dark coloured stools. Whenever there is exposure to unhealthy food, results in diarrhoea. Intestinal gas formation is one of the symptoms of indigestion. The undigested food particles were acted upon by intestinal bacteria results in gas formation. Consult a gastroenterologist soon for further assistance. Proton pump inhibitors, H2 receptor blocker, antacid and digestive enzymes, antibiotic therapy are the possible drugs for managing gastritis, duodenitis and GERD.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
