What Causes Severe Constipation Along With Urinary Incontinence?

Have fibromyalgia, IBS, trigeminal neuralgia.....suffering with long term constipation, hardily any stool with movement, no firm form bowel movement. Finally after several days using laxative, then a fleets enema for two days and laxative last night some action. Lots of water with fecal debris. I though I may have a pseudo blockage with husband threatening to make me go to doctor. Then it appears now also today I have UTI with urgency and not making it to bathroom. Just now awoke from nap with and found silent incontinence. I am to be 69 at the end of the year. Concerned now of nerve problem with colon, etc. \

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of severe constipation, fibromyalgia, IBS, Trigeminal Neuralgia and so on.
Your constipation problems that is not easily resolved even with laxatives and enema may most probably be due to IBS-C.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Colonoscopy.
CT scan of abdomen.
Stool tests for three times along with regular tests of blood and urine.
Identify the foods, beverages and any other factors that are causing the constipation and avoid these at any cost.
Try different foods, laxatives, stool softeners for relief of constipation.
There can not be any obstruction if there is no bloating, nausea or pain.
Colonoscopy will help to rule this out.
Consult a Neurologist if you feel any other problems related to neurological system.
Avoid stress and anxiety as these are causing most of the problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
