What Causes Severe Cramps In The Rectal Area During Bowel Movements?

I have severe cramping in the rectal area while having bowel movements. I have several bowel movements a day and usually soft or diarrhea... The pain is so intense I cannot move... I fear having the bowel movements now. I am going to start liquids only... I feel full after eating... It hurts in the upper abdomen then. Now it is lower abdominal pains and a feeling of having to have a bowel movement alot with cramping discomfort. No blood that I have noticed.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

All your history is suggestive of one of the following conditions:
Proctocolitis in which the area is inflamed from within.
Colitis as general showing symptoms in rectal area.
Fissure in ano or prolapsed thrombosed piles.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a General Surgeon asap for anorectal scopy and digital examination.
Tests of stool for 3 consecutive days.
Tests of blood and urine.
Ultrasonography and CT scan of abdomen as needed.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis so that a proper management can be done.
Till then take plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration.
Take an antispasmodic.
Probiotics, bananas, curds or yogurt.
Activated charcoal tablets.
Sitz bath in a tub with warm water.
And further management as per the findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
