What Causes Severe Ear Pain After Treated For Ear Blockage?
I went to the doctor today about a separate issue and he said I had a complete blockage of wax in my left ear. He never used water or anything in the ear, he just used some sort of long metal instrument to try and get it out. He was unable to get the wax because it was causing me extreme painand prescribed neomycin drops for 7 days and then Debrox after I finish the neomycin. My ear is now in a tremendous amount of pain and I m worried something is damaged. Should I be worried?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe ear pain after treated for ear blockage is because of persistence of upper respiratory track infection that has spread to ear through Eustachian tube. It could be due to ear drum injury as you put sharp instrument in ear. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory. You should take steam and blow cheeks with nose closed. For now do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
