What Causes Severe Earache?

I ve had issues with stabbing ear pain over the years, my doctor s never see anything wrong. It is not a constant pain, but, strikes like lightening causing me to wince. It feels also like I have a toothache along with the ear pain. What do you think?

Hi

Thanks for using HealthcareMagic
Based on your description of the pain and the fact that there are no findings on examination, it is likely neurological in origin.
This means that it is nerve related pain.
It tends to present in this way.
It may be temporary or permanent and there are different causes such as--

(1)low vitamin b12 and folate
(2)diabetes
(3)trauma to the nerve
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)side effect of medication
(6)thyroid disease
(7)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(8)stroke

You would need blood tests and imaging to find the cause.
In some persons, the cause is not found.
