What Causes Severe Earache?

I have an ear ache that is sharp and stabbing. It only lasts for an instant and then everything is okay. This has occurred occasionally during the day but within the last hour, the pain has gotten a lot more frequent. I am 76 year old male and wear hearing aids.

Hello,

The following can be the possibility.
-Impacted ear wax
-Acute otitis media
-Otitis external
-Bulge tympanic membrane etcetera.
For that otoscopy ear examination done, to visualize the interior of the ear. And according to cause treatment given. For example If impacted wax present than syringing done to remove wax. If infection present, then suitable antibiotic ear drop prescribed.
