Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 29 year old female. I used to be a meth addict. This July will be my 2nd year sober. Lately over the past few months I ve gone through times where I m extremely tired, fatigued, even weak feeling. Occasionally I break out in hot sweats. However, that could be due to where I live it s over 100 degrees and summer. Some days I m ok, but others I m so tired and miserable. Doctors have run blood tests but don t find anything. I suffer from anxiety, but refuse to go on meds. So I go to acupuncture weekly. It helps. If there is anything you can do to help I would much appreciate it. I feel as though my doctor is not thorough enough. Thank you
First of all, let me congratulate you on your sobriety. Staying sober for that long is quite an accomplishment, and you should be very proud of yourself. I'm so happy for you. Low energy and fatigue could be due to a number of things, but the most common cause is poor diet and poor sleep hygiene. I'd first recommend eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables, and try to avoid processed foods and high amounts of sodium. Second of all, I'd recommend you get 8 hours of sleep at a regular time every night. Try to avoid napping during the day. The third thing I would recommend is a regular exercise program - at least 5 days a week. I'd make these 3 lifestyle modifications and see if your energy level improves after about a month. If you still fatigue, I'd have your doctor check your thyroid levels, as low thyroid levels can often lead to the symptoms you are having.
I hope I have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
