Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Fatigue, Muscle Ache And Joints Pain While On Remicade Infusion?
I started Remicade infusions July 19th. I have extreme fatigue, muscle aches and joint pain. My Doctor is not sure if these are side affects, he thinks it is arthritis. I do not understand this because if I have arthritis, Remicade is suppose to take care of that. I have UC. My questions are: 1. Is extreme fatique, muscle aches & joint pains reason for discontinuing Remicade? 2. I have a cold, can I have an infusion tomorrow? Thank you
It looks like you are experiencing side effects of Remicade. If you have joint pains, muscle aches & fatigue you should get a physical examination done along with the investigations to rule out thyroid dysfunction, fibromyalgia or arthritis/osteoarthritis. You will have to get blood tests & some Imaging tests done at the earliest.
For cold you can take oral antibiotics, antihistamines & Acetaminophen (Tylenol). For joint pain you can take NSAIDS. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and its severity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
