Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Ihave been taking 5mg of bisoprolol once a day since I had an A-Fib incident after surgery in 2014. Some days I feel like I have no energy and very tired. I take 1/2 pill in the morning and the other half at nite. My blood pressure was 104 over 61 a short time ago today. i just was seen by my heart doctor 2 weeks ago & they did not change anything. I also take 800mg of multaq each day & 20 mg paxil. Would it possibly be ok to cut down on the bisoprolol?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The primary aim of Bisoprolol is not to reduce blood pressure but to control increased heart rate, commonly the issue with A-fib. So to decide whether to cut down on it first heart rate should be studied, you make no mention of that. Also other causes for the lack of energy should be considered like anemia, metabolic alterations or low thyroid function for which some routine blood tests should be done. If at the end no other cause is found and your heart rate is well controlled then it may be considered to reduce Bisoprolol dose.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
