What Causes Severe Fatigue?

I ve been overly tired on and off for about six months. I know I m older, almost 70. But I don t recall being this tired previously. I ve just been diagnosed with chronic emphysema, even though I ve never been a smoker. I assume that would something to do the fatigue.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Tiredness you are experiencing now could be due to the long-term (chronic) emphysema. Emphysema affects the amount of oxygen in body which can lead to tiredness. Follow appropriate therapy for emphysema with bronchodilators. Also, follow-up with a pulmonologist to assess need for home oxygen therapy. I would also recommend checking blood hemoglobin levels, thyroid levels and getting a complete physical examination done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
