Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 5 year old has been running a fever between104 and 100 since 10/2. 2 visits to the doctor and I have been told it s just a virus. They did a strep culture, it was negative. Am I over reacting or is this too long of a period to keep passing this off as a virus?
Hi, severe fever can be due to viral fever, malaria, dengue or Respiratory tract infection. If your child doesn't have rash, chills and rigor, cough then chances of malaria, dengue are less. But If your child has persistent fever, then you should do CBC, Malarial antigen test, NS1 Antigen test. It will make the diagnosis clear. Till then continue Paracetamol for fever. I hope this has helped you.
