What Causes Severe Headache And Ear Pain While On Amoxicillin?

I ve just started taking amoxicillin for lymes disease, after finding that my recheck showed western blot levels being high. Today I had an extreme headache that went into my ear, and now pain and numbness in my teeth. Could this be a complication from lymes or a reaction to the amoxicillin?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The main adverse effects of amoxicillin are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, headache, abnormal taste sensation and skin rash. Pain and numbness in teeth may be due to Lyme's disease. Antibiotic can be changed in case of persistent infections. Doxycycline or cefuroxime can be preferred.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
