What Causes Severe Jaw Pain And Difficulty In Chewing?
Hi I have been experiencing severe jaw pain, very hard to chew, burning in the back of my throat, ear pain. I have had this pain for 4 wks now hoping it would go away. I have an appt next week. Can you tell me what these symptoms could mean. I don t have tonsils for it to be strep. I am a healthy 55 yr old woman. Thank you Tina
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe jaw pain and difficulty in chewing which could be because of TMJ (temporomandibular joint ) dysfunction and it could be due to stress which is leading to clenching of teeth at night, It could be due to sever tooth infection as well.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult dentist for proper evaluation of the condition. Doctor may examine physically and order tests to confirm diagnosis such as X-ray of tooth or CT or MRI of TMJ. Doctor may prescribe night guard if it is due to bruxism. Take soft and light food. Do mouth stretching exercises in very light way and take muscle relaxants as well.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
