What Causes Severe Pain In The Ears While Suffering From Tympanic Membrane Perforation?
HI,AM RIYA.... LAST WEEK I HAD SEVERE EAR PAIN WITH EAR DISCHARGE (LIGHT YELLOWISH) AND MY GP TOLD ITS EXTERNAL OTTITS AND PRESCRIBED WITH A MEDICINE TERMED SOFRADEX.I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PERFORATED TYMPANIC MEMBRANE LAST DAY. MY GP ADVISED ME THAT IT WILL RESOLVE ON ITSELF. BUT I DO HAVE SOME SHARP PAIN IN MY EARS AND I CAN HEAR SOME SHH..SHH.. VOICE TOO.IS THIS SELF RESOLVING.HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GET RESOLVED. HOW CAN I KNOW IF ITS GETTING INFECTED.
* About half of the cases of perforated tympanic membrane respond to medications as antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines and get healed over a period of time (varies in various individuals depending upon the extent of insult of tissue).
* Remaining half of the cases, do require surgery of tympanoplasty with an expert ENT specialist to get cured.
Pain resolves gradually over a period of time once the basic pathology gets under control.
Be remain in regular follow up with your treating doc and get the latest updates of healing and recovery course duration accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
