What Causes Severe Stomach Cramps And Swelling After An Abortion?
I had an abortion 2 days ago with a vacum. I was 8 weeks pregnant. I was feeling fine the day after and had to go to the mall and my sons graduation so I was active. I woke up this morning with the worst labor pains (stomach cramps) and gas the pains have lasted all day. They are not to bad if i lie still but if I move or stand up they are almost unbearable. I am 36 and have 3 kids and feel like i am in labor. My stomach is also really swollan and looks like a watermelon. Do I need to go to the emergency room?
Hello dear UNDerstand your concern Following are the cause of severe stomach pain, swelling: Paralytic ileus: As intestine is near to the uterus, in surgical process there may be chance to loss of peristaltic movement of uterus. It cause swelling of abdomen and discomfort. Consult the surgeon/gynecologist for that. Should be treated by nasogastric suction, parentral nutrition and movement can be induced by giving lactulose. Retain product: retain product of pregnancy should be rule out by USG scan. Treatment is D & C. Stomach swelling may be due to hormonal dysfunction and stress due to surgical process (cortisol release) in abcence of paraytic ileus ans retain product. Indigestion/gas/gastrointestinal disturbance should be there if above cause will not be there. So you have to go to emergency room for treatment and management of problem Hope this may help you Best regards Dr. Sagar
