What Causes Severe Swelling In The Arm In An Elderly Person?

Hi doctor, my mom is 76 year old this year. all the certain she got swollen on her arm about a fist size. It doesn t give her any pain. I was wonder what is she getting? Her primary doctor said it is nothing wrong with it but I am curious why my mom getting it? Thanks Connie

Hi, if it is near the chest, it could be extra breast tissue called axillary breast that can form in the old. It should be examined, and if confirmed, it can be excised if it bothers cosmetically.
Another possibility is it could be a local collection of fat called lipoma--again harmless. Regards
